Rooted in Responsibility, Guided by Compassion
September 4, 2025 | Medicine Hat
Our downtown deserves leadership that is principled, practical, and focused on results. Social disorder, homelessness, and economic stagnation demand action, not just good intentions. We need solutions rooted in compassion, guided by accountability.
Downtown Medicine Hat should be a place where families feel safe, businesses flourish, and every citizen is treated with dignity. That vision is achievable, but only if we address the realities head-on.
I believe in policies that reflect personal responsibility, fiscal discipline, and community care. We must support those who are struggling, while also protecting the rights of law-abiding citizens and business owners who contribute to our city’s vitality.
Medicine Hat has earned national recognition for its Housing First model, which helps people transition from homelessness into stable housing. This approach is both humane and cost-effective. But housing alone is not enough. We must ensure that individuals also have access to mental health care, addiction recovery, and employment pathways. Compassion must be matched with structure. Structure must be guided by empathy. That balance is necessary.
Here is my plan to revitalize downtown Medicine Hat:
Strengthen Partnerships That Deliver Results
We need coordinated action, not fragmented efforts. I will advocate for stronger collaboration between the city, local businesses, law enforcement, service agencies, and the province. Working together will help us achieve real results.
Empower Entrepreneurs and Property Owners
Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. I will support cutting red tape, expanding beautification grants, and creating incentives for property revitalization. A clean and attractive downtown encourages investment and community pride.
Activate Public Spaces with Purpose
We must reclaim our streets and parks. I will promote community events, improve lighting and landscaping, and ensure consistent bylaw enforcement. A vibrant downtown is a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
Restore Order with Compassionate Accountability
Street-level disorder cannot be ignored. I will support expanded shelter access and treatment services. At the same time, I will stand firm on enforcing public safety standards. Respect must be extended to all, including business owners and families.
This campaign is not about ideology. It is about doing what is right. It is about building a city that works for everyone. Prosperity should be earned, and compassion should never be mistaken for complacency.
With courage, common sense, and collaboration, we can make our downtown a place we are proud to call home.
